“Fast, Easy, Safe Demos Used to Launch Lessons”
Demo 1: write on paper with phenophtalene and then spray with windex (base) to make the words appear (pink). Tymol phtalein gives a blue color.
Demo 2: Use Airzooka to blow a cup off a student's head (Flinn AP6657 $20.40)
Demo 3: Generate carbon dioxide (mix baking soda and acetetic acid or vinegar) to blow out a candle. Put candles in a aquarium blocked off into 2 pieces so that you have a control. A piece of wood with holes drilled allows candles to burn.
Demo 4: hydrogen peroxide with yeast (catalyst). Set up a gas collection tube (water in a jar) , add hydrogen peroxide to yeast and collect the gas. Put a glowing wood splint to the bottle and it will ignite. Burn steel wool in the gas collected.
Demo 5: Pressure (suction) cups
Demo 6: Water in an aluminum can. Put it on a hot plate. After a few minutes invert and place in cold water. Can will collapse.
Demo 7: Thermite balls.
Demo 8: Fortune teller fish.
